Foley's Department Store, established in 1900 by the Foley brothers in Houston, Texas, quickly became a hallmark of Southern retail. In 1947, Foley's was acquired by Federated Department Stores, Inc. (now Macy's, Inc.), further solidifying its position as a major department store chain. The brand continued to thrive under this new ownership, expanding its footprint with multiple stores across Texas and the Southwest. However, in 2006, as part of a nationwide rebranding effort, Foley’s stores were converted to Macy's, and the iconic Foley's name disappeared from storefronts, leaving behind a legacy of over a century of retail excellence.
In 2012, Strategic Marks, LLC acquired the rights to the Foley’s brand, as part of its mission to revive beloved, nostalgic department store names. Through Strategic Marks' efforts, Foley's has been brought back to life, with plans to reintroduce the brand to new generations via e-commerce and other innovative retail strategies. This acquisition not only honors Foley's rich history but also aims to recapture the charm, service, and community connection that made the brand a Texas retail legend.
Today, Foley's stands poised for a modern revival, blending its historic values with contemporary shopping experiences, and continuing to be a name Texans—and shoppers across the nation—fondly remember.
